Along the edges

Written last night:

Dear Friends,

As I edge back into life, I find myself letting worries worry me. One thing about being numb is you don’t worry. Not that it’s good — just thought I’d mention it.

During today's Zing-free time I walked to the library, just to visit, not intending to get any books. But I found a new one by Robert Olen Butler. He teaches at FSU and wrote A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain, which won the Pulitzer Prize. Besides, I used to drive past his house (an old county place) whenever I went to Perry, FL. And I know some people who know some people who know his wife, or maybe it’s a former wife. Not sure. Isn’t that a good reason to get his latest book? It's Perfume River.

I’ve been noticing people out in public with books. Today, a woman on a bus bench, reading. Earlier this week, we passed a man who read as he crossed N Street right by the Capitol. I guess if you can cross the street reading your phone you can do it reading a book.

And I got a summons for jury duty — I wonder if I can take Zing…

Love,
