Today I made a birthday cake for my friend, who lives in this building.
“Maybe you could give her something small, like a cupcake,” her husband said the other day. Janie told me he doesn’t love sweets. But she does.
It was so hot last Wednesday that I skipped my regular 8-block walk to hear noon chamber music. But today was breezy and fine, and I got to hear the Pacific Arts Trio — harp, flute and cello. Most interesting and maybe beautiful were three Irish airs and a concerto by Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738). They told us he was a blind harpist who traveled the country offering to write a piece of music for every person in the household in exchange for room and board.
Love,
k
