Cedar Key weekend

View from Cedar Key's small beach
Storm approaching
Scallop season
Shells decorate a waterside sandwich shop
I heard a boater say scallops are abundant in the grassy flats offshore.
You've got to at least taste alligator, right?
I did. Once.
And that palm salad is the crunchy, tasteless heart of Florida's state tree, the Sabal palm.
Fish above door on vacant building

Fish can be ferocious.

Blue in Apalachicola

I've been feeling low since Saturday, when we drove to Apalachicola on gorgeous Apalachicola Bay to deliver some life jackets from our old boat, Rosie. We sold them to a man who is working for BP, managing boaters who are searching for signs of oil. As of noon Saturday they hadn't spotted any in the waters around the little fishing town. The woman at the Visitors' Bureau told us that there is actually a rise in numbers of tourists, & there were people roaming the streets, shopping in the glaring sun. We saw this urgent sign at a fish house. I felt hard-hearted until we drove out of town, & the grasses & blue-greens & glow took my breath away.

Bon Voyage, ROSIE!

We just sold Rosie, our beautiful Grady-White. We had her for 12 years. She is being trailered right now up to Massachusetts. Different water! We have this small quilt on our mantel, with a candle to burn in front of it.
This is the little quilt that started the project. Early in the morning I looked out the west window & saw this beautiful pecan tree hiding the moon. I decided to capture a treasured moment each day in November.
At nearly 10 p.m. a transformer blew, shocking us all with sudden brilliance, then dark. We were in the Lazy Flamingo restaurant on Sanibel.
