Neither dreaming nor awake

Written last night:

Last night when I stirred I was neither dreaming nor awake. I felt Clark standing at the side of the bed; in a moment he leaned down and gently set something by my pillow.  I felt its small heft. And then, when I wasn’t yet awake, I turned, as you can only turn in your dreams, and saw in the covers by my head  a tiny owl, all fluffy and golden, shining and alive. Beside the owl, toward the back of my head, I could feel a bigger weight. It was a golden-red fox, alert and still, looking over me. I felt a great comfort in the shining wash of light, and smiled up at Clark, and he beamed back at me. The owl, which Clark knows I love, was for warmth and kindness, and the fox was protection. Then, just before he left, Clark placed Zing in my arms.

Dancing owl

She's a ballerina. Her wings & legs/feet will be in the first position. Her feathers are felted silk & threads. I'm using Maureen's baby lock felting machine.

Threads

These threads helped finish my little Night Owls quilt. Quilters Unlimited says we can't discuss it ... so, shhhh! I hate not showing the final quilt. (It's for the annual members' challenge.) But here - take this inspiration, a video of Kiran Sethi, who believes in kids. I've begun tutoring, back fussing about what makes people learn. For me, it's color. And words.

Owls

This is a self-portrait. I look at things sideways. She's made from cotton, silk, lace, tulle & a feather, sewn onto an 11" x 14" painted stretched canvas. Some people think it's a male, probably because of all the brown. That's OK.
This bird launched herself right off the canvas at me. I thought she was going to be demure, angelic. But she became what she is: cotton, silk, lace, felt, a stick, & attitude.
