Caroline made this ethereal creation for her sister Ana's fifth birthday party. When I visited their kitchen this morning, all seemed normal. Then Irene opened the refrigerator door, and -- I thought I was having a vision. The refrigerator pulsated with pink and white sublimity. Only she was real. As real as 13 sticks of butter in your icing dress can make a doll. And if you're wondering, yes, there's a Smitten Kitchen three-layer chocolate cake in there, each layer split, which makes six -- all covered with icing. Heavenly.
